Code4Peace will serve as a global portal for the creation and distribution of peace software, showcasing new tools and solutions, as well as hosting discussions and collaborations. Code4Peace aims to bring programmers and peace workers together to create practical and valuable tools that can be used by people around the world, using the power of software to help create peace.
The Code4Peace events will be a series of events that will bring programmers and peace workers together to create practical and valuable tools that can be used by people around the world. The events will feature collaborative computer coding sessions, or hackathons, designed to produce software and create a community of programmers who support peace. Talks by experts in peace, technology, and non-profit activities will take place at the events and be archived.
The Code4Peace events will initially take place in the San Francisco Bay Area, which represents the highest concentration of talented and creative computer programmers in the world, making it the ideal location for Code4Peace.
What is peace software?
Peace software are tools and platforms that help to build peace between people. These include tools that enable communication between people, transcend cultural, political, and religious differences, foster education and discussion, and raise the awareness of our global interdependency. They can also be games that teach and connect, celebrate diversity and bring greater understanding, find common ground, encourage collaboration, and help to strengthen community. Peace software can be any tool that supports the people working for peace.
There is a great need for new tools that take advantage of the possibilities of computer technology to help build peace. As a society, we spend an enormous amount of energy and resources towards creating advanced technology for war and destruction. It is time we focus on creating technology for peace.
As Mahatma Ghandhi once said, "Things undreamt of are daily being seen, the impossible is ever becoming possible. We are constantly being astonished these days at the amazing discoveries in the field of violence. But I maintain that far more undreamt of and seemingly impossible discoveries will be made in the field of nonviolence."
Code4Peace is a project of the World Peace Through Technology Organization.
